Rafidah urges govt to preserve 120-year old Convent Bukit Nanas

KUALA LUMPUR (April 19): Former Minister of International Trade and Industry Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has urged the government to convert the leasehold title of Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) to preserve the heritage institution.

The former minister said the heritage institution, which is also among the pioneers in the nation’s educational development, should be preserved and remain where it is, reported MalaysiaKini today.

The 78-year old is also one of the members of Convent Nanas alumni. She attended the school in the 1950s.

CBN — which comprises two primary schools and SMKCBN — was established by Christian missionaries in 1899, thus making it one of the oldest schools in the city, and is inside the heritage zone.

SMKCBN was today granted leave by the High Court here to mount a challenge against the non-renewal of its land lease which is due to expire on Sept 6 this year.

*High Court allows Convent Bukit Nanas to challenge non-extension of land lease, but stay will only be heard next month
