Explore the rich natural heritage of the Kota Damansara Community Forest Park (KDCFP), a captivating secondary forest nestled in Selangor, Malaysia. With roots dating back to its inclusion in the historic Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve in 1898, KDCFP proudly carries the distinction of being among the oldest forest reserves in Peninsular Malaysia. Despite developmental alterations over the years, the sanctuary retains its allure across 857 acres, safeguarding the core of its diverse ecosystem.

Originally, logging activities transformed the landscape into a secondary forest, fostering a profusion of pioneer plants and even harbouring rare species like Begonia aequilateralis. Despite its secondary status, KDCFP surprises visitors with sightings of primary forest species such as meranti. The park represents a dipterocarp forest, a characteristic tropical habitat found in Malaysia, featuring a blend of flat land and low elevation hills.

A defining feature of the Kota Damansara Community Forest Park (KDCFP) is its man-made lake, a vivid illustration of the park’s ever-changing landscape. Originating from a road construction project in the early 2000s that redirected a small stream, this artificial lake has blossomed into a sanctuary for diverse aquatic flora and fauna, flourishing in the serene waters of the park.

For enthusiasts of biodiversity and nature’s wonders, the Kota Damansara Community Forest Park offers an insightful journey into Malaysia’s ecological tapestry. As you tread the trails, witness the coexistence of pioneer and primary plants, and marvel at the vibrant life in and around the artificial lake.
