Established in 1974, the garden was inspired by the enchanting concept of a rainforest garden.  As you enter this lush greenery space, you will be transported to a world of natural wonders, with about 1700 species of plants mostly native to Malaysia, other tropical parts of Asia, Pacific Islands, Australia, America South, Africa and Madagascar.

The garden’s core collections include medicinal plants, palms, citrus trees (plants from the orange family), ferns, and bamboo.  Additionally, Rimba Ilmu has a permanent exhibition called Rain Forests and Our Environment, a conservatory called Rare Plants and Orchid Conservatory, and a herbarium. It provides a broad-scope bilingual overview of tropical rainforests, focusing on topics such as biodiversity and species richness as well as forest conservation values. In the Rare Plants and Orchid Conservatory, there are understorey plants that are endemic, rare, or threatened by their natural habitat in a living collection. Meanwhile, The herbarium contains dried and preserved specimens used primarily for taxonomy studies. There are currently over 70,000 accessions in the Rimba Ilmu collection, which includes seaweeds, seagrasses, ferns, mosses, and fern relatives.

So, whether you’re a nature lover or simply someone looking to be captivated by the wonders of the natural world, Rimba Ilmu offers a friendly and immersive experience like no other. Come and be inspired by the beauty and importance of preserving our precious ecosystems, and take home memories that will last a lifetime.

It’s important to dress appropriately for the walk, taking into account the weather conditions. We recommend wearing comfortable, lightweight clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or leggings. Closed-toe shoes with good grip and support, such as comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots, are a must. It’s also important to protect yourself from insects, so we recommend applying insect repellant and wearing long sleeves and pants if possible. It’s also a good idea to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. If you’re an avid photographer, don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the beautiful scenery.

The exclusive activity is limited to 15 registered CBN ALUMNI only and is first come, first served. To RSVP, please complete the form and pay RM11.00 by 24 August 2023 (entrance/guide/transaction cost).

See you amidst the breathtaking greenery of Rimba Ilmu!
